About the Rose Garden...
Known as "The City of Roses," Portland, Oregon is the Pacific Northwest's third-largest metropolitan area and Oregon's largest city. Renowned as one of the most "environmentally-friendly" cities world-wide, Portland has a long history of being "eco-aware," and its land-use planning advancements are a model frequently copied by numerous cities, not only in the U.S., but globally.
Portland is also home to the NBA's Portland Trailblazers, one of the league's most successful franchises, both financially and attendance-wise, almost from their inaugural season (1970). From 1977 through 1995, the Trailblazers sold out their venue for an (at the time) American professional sports record 814 consecutive games. The 1976-77 Trailblazers, coached by Dr. Jack Ramsay and led by Bill Walton, Maurice Lucas and Lionel Hollins, won the franchise's only championship, although they have advanced to the NBA Finals on two other occasions. Besides Walton and Ramsay, five other players who've suited up for the Trailblazers have been inducted into the Hall of Fame: (Lenny Wilkens, Drazen Petrovic, Clyde Drexler, Arvydas Sabonis and Scottie Pippen).
The Trailblazers played home games in Portland's downtown Memorial Coliseum from the franchise's inception in 1970 through the 1994-95 season. On October 12, 1995, the Rose Garden Arena was opened next door to the Memorial Coliseum. With a seating capacity of 19,980 for basketball, the fifth-largest in the NBA. The Trailblazers are the primary tenants of the Rose Garden, but the arena also hosts such events as concerts, rodeos, conventions, circuses, ice hockey, lacrosse, football and various other presentations, both sporting and artistic.
Comprised of eight levels, including 70 skyboxes, the Arena can be configured to hold 20,580 patrons with standing room. Each skybox can comfortably host 22 guests, and has such amenities as private restroom, wet bar, catering, multiple video monitors, and a sound system. Overall, the Rose Garden has 32 public restrooms, multiple kiosks for vending concessionaires, and numerous wi-fi hotspots for Internet access. The primary high-definition scoreboard measures 15 feet by 22.5 feet and hangs above center court. There are also over 650 video monitors situated throughout the arena.
The Rose Garden is the centerpiece of the downtown district known as The Rose Quarter, including Memorial Coliseum and other entertainment venues. Several parking structures, both above-and-under-ground serve the district, as well as a shopping district and a multitude of restaurants, offering every conceivable cuisine.
